Jingle Bells, JingleBells, Jingle all the way. Oh! What fun it is to ride in a one-horse opensleigh.
Jingle Bells is one ofthe most commonly sung songs in the world. It was written by James LordPierpont and published under the title OneHorse Open Sleigh in 1857. Although it is thought of as a Christmas song,it was written and sung for Thanksgiving. It was mistakenly branded as aChristmas song because, as it was extremely popular at Thanksgiving, peoplewould sing it again at Christmas time.
Jingle Bells was thefirst song broadcast from space, in a prank by Gemini 6 astronauts. While inspace on December 16, 1965, they sent a report to Mission Control as follows:
“We have an object, looks like a satellite going from north to south, probablyin polar orbit... I see a command module and eight smaller modules in front.The pilot of the command module is wearing a red suit...." The astronautsthen produced a smuggled harmonica and sleighbells and broadcast a rendition ofJingle Bells.
